Tristan Kerr Mural

Artist
Tristan Kerr

Location
30 Vardon Avenue, Adelaide

Created by Adelaide artist and typographer Tristan Kerr in 2017, this large-scale mural draws inspiration from South Australia’s rich graphic and industrial heritage. Rather than a conventional image, the artwork is composed of hand-painted typography featuring iconic South Australian brands, including Holden, Rosella, Bushells and Amscol, celebrating the advertising signs that once defined the sides of buildings and corner stores across the state.

Drawing on traditional signwriting techniques, Kerr created the mural using electro-pouncing, a historic process that transfers large-scale designs through perforated stencils before they are painted by hand. The result is a contemporary interpretation of Adelaide’s visual history, blending typography, craftsmanship and nostalgia into a work that rewards closer inspection.
