Painted by Adelaide artist Nick Phillips in 2016 as part of the Adelaide Fringe Street Art Explosion program, Frank’s Mural celebrates one of the East End’s most recognisable identities.
For more than six decades, Frank Vaiana was a familiar face in the precinct. Arriving in Australia from Sicily at just 17 years of age, he built a life around his barbershop, where generations of locals, workers and visitors gathered for a haircut, a conversation and a sense of community.
The mural, together with nearby Frank’s Lane, honours his enduring contribution to Rundle Street East. More than a portrait, it is a tribute to the people whose everyday presence has shaped the character of the precinct, recognising the local business owners and personalities whose stories are woven into its history.
